Argentine let down

Soccer, or football to the rest of the sports world, is by far the most popular sport in the world. As a result the FIFA world cup is the biggest sporting event in the world where legends of the pitch are made.
Didn't score a single goal in the World Cup!!!!

Leading into the 2010 FIFA World Cup Lionel Messi was considered by most as the best player in the world. The stage was set for the hyped striker to show the world why he was the best in the world... Messi had other plans.

Messi did not score a single goal in the biggest stage sports has to offer. How can it be that Messi scored a staggering 34 goals for his club team Barcelona in one of the best leagues in the world but failed to score one simple goal?

The biggest excuse I heard throughout the World Cup this last summer was that Messi played great but just barely missed several times, aren't the best in the world suppose to able to put away those close shots?

All I know is the truly great players live for that big spotlight and take over the competition with their desire to win and don't need excuses for their crappy play. Little Lionel Messi just isn't made for the big stage.

Melo who?

Carmelo Anthony has been in the news lately involved in possible trade scenarios and rumors but no team has pulled the trigger on a potential blockbuster trade to acquire the services of Carmelo. The truth is that he's honestly not that good.
Great Talent can only get you so far.

When talking about the NBA's elite players there are are two different tiers; the superstars and the franchise players. Carmelo is just a superstar and not a franchise player.

Before I get a bunch of nasty comments consider this, Carmelo was almost traded to the bulls recently but Jokim Noah was the untouchable player that held up the deal. Now imagine if Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, or Kevin Durant was being traded, do you think the Bulls wouldn't trade Jokim Noah?
Noah was the reason the Melo trade didn't happen

The truth is that the Nuggets never even made it out of the 1st round of the NBA playoffs until Chauncey Billips was added to the roster. This goes to show as talented as Melo is, he's just not equipt to lead a franchise.

King without a throne.

As the NBA season approaches all I've been hearing is how great the new "Big Three" are going to be in Miami. The primary reason for this has to do with the acquisition of Lebron James.

Has anyone stopped to ask why? What has Lebron ever accomplished to deserve such a frenzy? The answer is absolutely nothing. The last major championship Lebron ever won was a high school state and national championship way back in 2003.

I do recognize the fact that Lebron is an amazing talent and he has the ability to be a once in a lifetime player, but just because he has the skills to be great doesn't mean he will be. I don't blame Lebron for making his "decision" this summer and I don't even blame him for the hype that surrounds him, I blame the media, and the fans, including myself.

Lebron has been compared to Jordan from the first time he showed up on national TV as a high school kid dominating his peers. In reality Lebron prefers to be Scotty Pippen and not Jordan. We were the ones who saw his talent and just assumed that he wanted to be everything we wanted. So in short don't believe the hype but don't blame Lebron for it either.

Not a real king

Mr. Abra Cadabra

So I was listening to sports radio the other day while driving home when the two hosts began discussing who the best big man in the NBA was. These two morons agreed that Dwight Howard was "obviously" the best big man in the league, I almost crashed into the center divider on the freeway I was so distraught.

How can the "best" big man in the league have no offense?
Dwight Howard, or Superman as he likes to call himself, is just an example of how pathetic the center position has become in the NBA. Dwight Howard is beyond one dimensional, all the man can do is dunk!! Ok fine he can play defense at a high level but that's it, not nearly enough production to account for the label of "best" big man.

LOOK! it's a bird, it's a plane, on now wait Superman is being posterized
Reflect if you will on the playoff push the magic had 2 years ago when they went to the finals, can you remember one instance while watching when you thought to yourself, " Damn they can't stop Dwight!" The fact of the matter is that Dwight Howard is no superman at best he is Clark Kent on steroids.

Dwight Howard may be big and strong but watching him try to execute a simple drop step or a seal is like trying to watch Mike "The Situation" dance. So remember kids Superman does not exist no matter how many meaningless slam dunk competitions he wins.
